ABOUT ME
I am Jacob McCaw.
THE LORD OF THE RINGS CHANGED MY LIFE
Peter Jackson and his incredible team are responsible for my love of filmmaking and my passion to pursue it. I remember watching the Behind the Scenes documentaries that came with the extended editions of each film for hours and hours. I probably watched those more than the actual movies themselves (maybe). I was fascinated by the inner workings of a production. The pure creativity and art that Peter Jackson and his team pulled off will never cease to amaze me. That trilogy of movies enraptured me and sent me on a journey that led to a film school degree and multiple awards for my school projects.
Pete, if you're ever somehow reading this, thank you! You did this to me.
I am a proud New Mexico filmmaker. I have lived in New Mexico my entire life (disregarding a few months in Florida and three semesters in California).

THE EARLY YEARS
I started making films in 2010. I was 15 years old, and I had a little Canon camera that could shoot video. I had no concept of editing or software or anything like that, so I would try to start recording and cut as perfectly as possible so that, in the playback menu of the camera, I could click through each clip and my "film" would "play". Eventually, I figured out that it's a lot easier to get a free version of a video editor that put a giant watermark right in the middle of the screen and I started learning to edit. I started pumping out short film after short film and each one had a new element to it that I wanted to learn. Whether it was storytelling, music, sound effects, visual effects, or my acting skills, they were each a stepping stone to what I create today.
These films were mostly some combination of myself and my little brother, who is about 10 years younger than me, being action heros, fighting with brightly colored water guns or Nerf guns in the backyard. I will always be grateful to my brother for putting up with me making him do that when he was literally 5 years old.
